If I were you, I'd just take it apart. Check with the person who owns it first, but you're really not going to lose anything if you break it more. However, I'm kind of handy with taking things apart and putting them back together, if you're not confident (I'll bet you a dollar it's really easy), then either have someone you know take it apart or find a small appliance repair shop. Although if you end up paying someone else to fix it, chances are you'll end up in about the same place as you would buying a new mixer, unless the broken one is one of the really nice expensive ones.
