Could Allied bowmen have expedited the Normandy landings?

Amongst the obstacles facing allied soldiers on D-Day were sandbag-fortified machine gun pits on top of the cliffs. Allied soldiers couldn't hit them with direct rifle fire and they were too far from the beaches to be reached with grenades. Could allied longbowmen have fired arrows over and then down into those positions negating or slowing the effects of those german gunners?
