When they say no evidence, don't they really mean this?

no evidence really means ' no evidence that we will accept, or that we believe should lead to your conclusion. Data doesn't cease to be evidence merely based on rejection of the conclusion. The evidence may not be sufficient for some, but that in no way negates the existence of evidence.
