Don't apply in advance. Go for a vacation. Tell them at the border you are on a pleasure trip and will be returning in a week. Once in the Canadian city of your choice (Montreal is the best if you are gay, but Quebec is fun if you are fluent in French!), then go to immigration. They are very welcoming.
