How do i get rid of my acne ? or slow it down?

i have acne and have had it for a while now, and i first got a gel kinda thing for my face, it has salylic acid, and that helped a bit, but didnt realy make a huge difference. now i have pills, they also helped a bit, but i still get some pimples. the pills are minocycline and im still using the gel, and was wondering if using them both at the same time is a bad thing ?
